Cerebral Palsy exercises for guitar?

February 25, 2011 in Questions

Hi, I was born with Cerebral Palsy, I think I have Hemiparesis, which is a heavily weakened “side” of the body. I was in therapy at a Child Development Center, but somehow funding for me ended, when I was ten years old, and I don’t think I can go back, because age limit is twelve, I believe.

I’m fifteen now, and I have learning the guitar for two years now, and I’m interested in fingerpicking, picking with all five (well, four, plus your thumb) of your fingers, I can do slowly, but for most songs, it requires alot more speed.

How do I increase the “plucking strings” speed, and overall increase in reaction time and strength in my hand?
My right side, the one you hit the strings with, is the one impaired.

I want to play the guitar, but I have cerebral palsy?

December 20, 2010 in Questions

5166011710 6b331bdec8 m I want to play the guitar, but I have cerebral palsy?
Is it possible? I want to really bad. I can use my right hand, but it’s not 100% functional. I can’t strum with it, and it is extremely difficult to hold chords with it. My left hand is 100% functional, so..um…I just really want to play the guitar and I don’t know how. Is there anything I can do to strengthen the ability of my right hand? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Can I play guitar considering I have mild cerebral palsy?

I’d like to learn although every time I try I get frustrated because I have limited function in my right arm (more specifically my right hand). Is there some kind of special instructor that I could go to, or should I move on? If someone who understands or lives with this disorder could give some input, I’d appreciate it.

What are the causes of it also?
I’m talking about my brother and he is 32. That article was about men over the age of 65.
